RE: I Track Tested a 2009 Ram...Not just for Dodge fans!

Isn't the new 09 Ram the work of Diamler Chysler and not the new ownership. I just hope that the new owners will continue to improve their products and not split off and sell. I just have a hard time understanding the US auto makers and the decision the management makes at times. I own and operate a small business and common sense plays a big roll in the decisions I make on a daily basis. I know that there is night and day between my small company and theirs. I just hope that they can survive this tough time and start making money again.

RE: Carriage cameo

That still is probably not enough, our jayco has 80, and that is barely enough sometimes.. I sent you a PM.

RE: RAM 3500 mega cab dually to pull 5th wheel??

I've had my MC DRW for over a year and have traveled all over and have never had any problems with the short bed. I have a Reese slider but have used it one time in Fishing Bridge at Yellowstone. Most new 5th wheels have the corners angled for short bed trucks anyway. I would guess that over 50% of 5th are being towed with short bed trucks. Yours will work fine.

RE: preparing for camping in Texas

Thanks, folks! No worries about the washes, as we don't plan to boondock. We might stay in a state park or two for a few days, though, not just private CGs. Feral pigs, eh? Same as Arizona's javelinas, or just returned to the wild? Will keep an eye out. The rest of the critters (including mosquitos) we are quite familiar with. :) Hi knowlton Texas has great state parks and the fall is a good time to visit. I live in the hill country and know most of the parks. PM me if you have any questions on which ones I maybe things to do in the area. Have a nice trip and visit.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

BigBaldy: Nice pix of your rig, but how do you manage to keep the interior so clean with three kids? I only have two kids, use the truck only on weekends, and have had to clean footprints off everything except for the head liner. Do you even let your kids sit in the truck? ;) I make them sit in the bed, doesn't everybody? :B I've got the MC as well and that was my question about how so clean but if you stick them in the bed then that makes sense. Budman you are right about longer trips in the MC they are so much more pleasant and comfortable then before so for a family it's the perfect truck IMO.

RE: New Truck Decision

I agree with sdaly if I had 275K miles on my last truck why would I even consider any other engine. Both are very nice trucks that should last for many miles but the Cummins is rated as a medium duty engine were as the other 2 are rated light duty if that matters to you. Go drive all three and make your choice that way. All three should last an easy 300K without many problem IMO for what we pay for these thinks now days.

RE: Dodge 4500

Does anyone know why Dodge would derate the power on the 4500/5500 when compared to the 2500/3500? Yes, early Dodge literature said this was to deliver a substantial fuel mileage improvement over the competition and "Lower cost of operation". If you look at most of the MDT trucks the hp is derated because of the gearing. The freight liners and pete mdt only have about 300 hp unless you option for a larger engine.

RE: RAM 3500 mega cab dually to pull 5th wheel??

I have the MC DRW and love everything about the truck. I tow 11K 5th wheel but many others on here tow much heavier. I think one of them tows a Teton and loves his as well. They are great trucks for towing and traveling. I have a 15K slide but have only used it one time and that was a Fishing Bridge those that have been there know how tight it is. I know the rating are lower and no one knows why but I have talked to a hot shot delivery guy and he tows over 25K with his across the country and has not had any problems and says that the truck handles the weight fine. That's too much in my book but you see 1 ton drw trucks towing way over the rating all the time on the highway.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

Also when comparing the gas to diesel you should remember that at trade in the gas 2500 or 3500 are worthless. I had the 03 GM 4x4 4door 6.0 gas nice truck and bought my 11K 5th wheel and it was a dog trying to climb the hills in the Texas Hill country. The diesel is the only why to go when towing the difference is huge. I sold the 03 GM and bought an 04 Dodge 2500 QC and it was a great truck and I was a big GM fan before this Dodge and I wanted the Cummins and the rest of the truck was awesome as well. My boys were growing and I needed more room so the 07 MC has been my dream truck after 39K miles its been great 2 reflashes and a speaker replaced. Good Luck.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

Don't let the looks of the Mega Cab fool you. Set in the back and see just how UNcomfortable that back seat is. I rode an hour in the back of an 08 a couple months ago and couldn't wait to get out of it. Mike I have the MC drw and I do not agree with the above statement. The back seats are firm but very comfortable IMO. It is the best traveling truck on the market today. I have 2 teen boy and we all love the truck for it's room and comfortable ride. I came from a GM 4 door and it's very small compared to the MC. We have traveled from Texas to Yellowstone and to Florida in two summers and this trucks works great for our family.

RE: Newmar Cypress?

Thanks for all the replies. I will give the Cypress a good look before I buy. My DW and I are thinking that we will wait a while before buying I know that the prices are good now but I do not want to spend that much right now with the market the way it is. Again thanks to all for your help.

Newmar Cypress?

I am looking at a few different 5th and saw the Cypress which is in the same price range as the Cameo and Designer. Who has or had the Cypress and what feed back would you give me on this or the other two mentioned above as far as quality and best buy for the money. All help would be appriciated.

RE: exhausted brake built in?

The grade brake feature on the Allison is ok (better than nothing). I have a Pacbrake on my Dodge and had the Allsion in my GM. The Pacbrake slows 11,000lbs better than the Allison slowed 6000. If you want the best of both worlds get a Duramax/Allison then add a PacBrake PBXR.....:B The pacbrake is very nice but lacks the braking HP of the Dodge EB. The EB on the dodge gives 240 HP and the pacbrake gives 180 HP but if I had to buy an aftermarket EB it would be the PB. The new 68ref has the same grade breaking feature as the D/A with the EB built in to the turbo. you can use the grade breaking without the EB on and it works fine but not like the EB. There are several good EB on the market but it seems the PB works great and has the air tank which is nice.

RE: Megacab hitch question

I went from the QC to the MC as well and like others have said the MC is wonderful. I have the DRW and the ride is great much more stable than the srw and seams safer. There is some difference driving and parking compared to the QC which is shorter but not to bad IMO. I use mine as my daily driver and love it.

RE: High Efficiency Brisk Air

I think you meant most parks have 30 and 50 amp services is this right? The 15K will draw about 13-15 amps I think but not sure about the brisk air.

Cummins 650Hp?

Is this a new engine for cummins ISX 650 HP @ 1800 rpm's? I saw this in an add for a 2009 Country Coach Veranda from Lazy Days.

RE: Garner State Park, TX

I've been to both and they are nice. I like Garner because of the Frio river and there are sites that are very close to the water. We stayed at the old side and like it better than the new side. There's a basketball court near by with the summer dances on the old side of the park and lots of shaded sites, the sites are roomy as well. Swimming in the river is great and the water is very clear and cool so you come out refreshed and don't feel like you need a shower right away. We like Garner very much but make sure you have everything you need becuase the nearest store is not close but there is an RV park right across the river that has a nice store that we would shop in if we needed any thing. Inks lake has fewer trees and is right on the lake lots of RVers have boats there and spend there time on the water.

RE: So what is my Tow Rating/Capacity? 08 Dodge 2500 Cummins

What type of cab do you have? I think the 2500 are around 13-14K for tow rating. Someone on this forum will know what the answer is or check the Dodge website. If your towing 9500 you will have no problems with your new truck.

RE: Dodge Cummins Blue-Tec?

I make a biweekly visit to the Dodge dealer to get the check engine light diagnosed. The Blue-tec system is full of bugs. I did make it three weeks once with the check engine light off. Usually it is back on within a few hours of operation after a visit to the dealer. I have gotten to know their diesel mechanic quite well. When the warranty expires, I am going to pull every bit of that system off and replace it with performance after market equipment. Your technician is inept. There is a reflash of the computer that solves this problem. Tell him to check the TSB's (technical serice bulletins). Wayne is right there are several TSB's that are out and have fixed the problem. I've had 2 check engine lights in 38K miles and both were less than 15K miles. I have had very good luck with my 07.5 and it was built in April 07. I would find another dealer because most on this forum know more about the 6.7's, 6.6's, and 6.4's then the dealers do.
